OUR COMMITMENT TO TRADITION

Our brand is a commitment to the art of real shoe making; full of passion, generational knowledge and individuals who are proud of their meticulous skill and Italian heritage.

The process of creating a DOF Studios product has always been a collaborative effort between our in-house design team in Melbourne and artisans in Italy. We source all materials and finishes from Europe, ensuring we maintain an exceptional quality across all products.

ARTISANAL processes

The process of traditional shoemaking involves meticulous knowledge and attention to detail. These are just some of the steps involved in creating DOF Studios footwear:

DESIGN & PATTERN MAKING: Our design team has daily meetings with our Italian makers to discuss new designs, improvements and refinements. The shoemakers then create patterns to be used for cutting the leather.

CUTTING LEATHER: We source some of the highest quality leathers in Europe. These leathers are precisely cut, according to the patterns created. This ensures each piece fits together seamlessly.

STITCHING: The upper and lining of the shoe are stitched together. There is an element of both hand-making, and specialised machine work used in this step of the process.

LASTING: The upper of the shoe is stretched and shaped over a form called a 'Last'. This creates the final shape and structure of the shoe.

SOLING & FINISHING: The sole of the shoe is attached, and any final detailing or polishing is completed. The shoes are then packed up and ready to be yours.

AN ENDANGERED ART

With the growing presence of fast fashion brands, the art of traditional shoemaking is becoming an endangered craft. When you purchase a DOF Studios product, you are supporting the family-owned factories we have manufactured with over the past decade, and preserving the century-old craft, spirit, and artisans who make our shoes.

" Traditional shoemaking is not just about creating A PRODUCT. it's about preserving italian heritage and craftsmanship."

- Melissa Butera, founder of DOF Studios.
